You know your craft. My role is to help you understand the business built around it. I connect the financial picture to decisions about pricing, cash flow, hiring, equipment and funding, with your goals and available resources in view. You gain financial leadership, a patient teacher, and an accountability partner without hiring a full-time CFO.
During an eight-year fractional engagement, I helped a concrete contractor grow from approximately $1 million to $20 million in annual revenue. I guided the transition from residential to commercial construction, helping increase gross margins from approximately 15–20% to 25–40% at both the project and company-wide levels. Net profit also improved significantly. My role included pricing, financial planning, and operational decision support.
Alongside financial leadership, I helped structure daily operations, improve field-to-office communication, and train team members to become more capable in their roles. The owner remained actively involved while gaining more time to enjoy his success.
The lowest cost for a single project isn’t always the best choice for the company. I weigh financial tradeoffs alongside labor availability, crew capacity, client relationships, and other commitments to recommend a practical direction.
Buying versus leasing. New versus used. I evaluate the investment against current work, committed projects, anticipated contracts, and resale conditions—considering both the opportunity and the downside if plans change.
I help clients understand fixed and variable costs and refine pricing to fit the market while supporting the business. For one client struggling to win projects, we lowered pricing with a 33% gross profit margin target. The result was more work awarded and stronger overall profitability.
Profit on paper doesn’t always mean cash is available. I forecast costs and incoming payments, review vendor terms and customer contracts, and identify funding gaps. For construction clients, I also review billing structures and schedules of values, including mobilization and demobilization costs.
I help clients establish lending relationships early, prepare financial information and forecasts, and evaluate financing terms. In one equipment refinancing engagement, I helped secure more favorable rates and terms that reduced monthly payments and total borrowing costs, freeing cash for operations.
